In Nol, telepathy is a pretty basic skill, and mind-reading is just a step above that. Guarding one’s thoughts is just another skill that children learn just like walking. It is fairly easy to look into the minds of family members, but it takes skills and sufficient powers to do a deep search of a stranger’s mind. Mind-control on the other hand, is an incredible rare skill, and one can only control the mind of someone who’s abilities is below theirs.
